On thrusdays now you will be getting some reviews of newer movies from me just to vary my content a bit, hope you enjoy this one!
Aw yeah people, Tarantino is back in business with a western, what else could you want?
I was pretty excited to see Django, the all star cast, the director, the quotes… it all seemed pretty damn good, lets find out.
This movie was based on a old movie by the same name back in 1966, but only very loosely. Basically they took inspiration from the gun fights, some of the scenes and the main character(and he actually makes a cameo).
So this movie kicks in with an introduction to our main character; a slave getting moved from one place to another, our silly intro music straight from the 1966 Django kicks in and the mood is set for the rest of the film. The stupid stuff crossed with serious stuff doesn’t really work… unless they focus on one or the other which actually worked ,up till the end .
Our friendly dentist and professional ass kicking bounty hunter, Dr. King Shultz comes to Django’s rescue because he needs his help for a bounty, he sets him loose and they take down some targets, Django shares his story to Shultz and tells him about his girlfriend that he hopes to save someday, he makes a pact with him in order to help him out and they set out to meet Leonardo Dicaprio in one of his greater roles, he is really a lot of fun to watch and is a pretty great villain.
Something I love about this movie are the well done scenes of character interaction and development, it’s all pretty cool, Django and Shultz are both really masterfully done characters and it’s really a character driven story as it would be very boring if the characters were not acted and written like they were. Everyone has a lot of weight on their shoulder to act appropriately to the time but I think they pulled it off. Did I mention this movie is Gruesome? Yeah it really is I shouldn’t be surprised with Tarantino, but since it’s much more realistic it really gets to me. Also, why is Django such a good shot? I mean I don’t think he misses a single shot in the whole movie that he didn’t want to miss. On more technical aspects this movie definitely struck gold; it looked gritty when it needed to, it looked awesome when it needed to and obviously the effects are great and exaggerated to a silly extreme (like a bullet being a cannon ball) since Django doesn’t miss it gets pretty messy and very worse at the end. Really, the ending can ruin the movie for some people. (Unless you see the ending separately)
I won’t spoil the rest of the movie for you since it’s still fairly new, it’s definitely not one of Tarantino’s best but it’s not bad by any stretch of the word either, like I said the characters and the action are all the reason you should watch this movie and it’s also funny as hell, I really add a lot of laughs with this movie and it is hard to see a movie that can bring out laughs and bitter emotions all in one sitting,oh and the soundtrack really rocks, its one of those soundtracks that you immediately go look for on youtube, all round I think you should really go see this one,it may not be a classic western and it may not be as good as true grit but it’s definitely worth your time.
